Babajide Arowosafe was appointed Executive Director, Technical of NIRSAL on 23rd December 2015. Jide is a highly experienced public and private sector professional with over 20 years’ experience in agricultural policy advisory, food security intervention designs, rural and commercial agriculture development and agricultural development investment/finance.  

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture from the Obafemi Awolowo University and a Master’s Degree in Agricultural Policy and Administration (Agricultural Economics). Over the last 20 years, Jide has completed several training programmes in finance and development including the GIZ Cefe Training programme and the ITC-ILO courses facilitated by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research.

A former Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources in Ekiti State, Jide was appointed Executive Director, Technical, at NIRSAL in 2015. He has also worked in various capacities with development and financial institutions including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank, International Finance Corporation (IFC), and Ecobank (formerly Oceanic Bank). In his time as Commissioner, Jide supervised the design and implementation of policies, programmes, and initiatives to facilitate inclusive commercial agricultural and agribusiness development.  

At UNDP Nigeria, Jide was Manager, Private Sector Development (PSD) Desk. He was a Monitoring, Evaluation and Business Development Specialist for the World Bank’s Micro, Small & Medium Enterprise (MSME) and the Growth & Employment (GEM) Projects as well as the Local Economic Development Consultant to International Finance Corporation (IFC) around one of its biggest investments in Africa – Obajana Cement Plant (now Dangote Cement). 

Jide has also worked as a Field Officer with IFC SME Department’s Support and Training Entrepreneurship Programme (STEP) where he rose to the position of Enterprise Advisor and onwards to Head of Monitoring and Evaluation Department of the Programme in Nigeria. He was a Field Extension Officer at the Teaching and Research Farm in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria and Acting Manager for Olaogun Farms, Ibadan, Nigeria during his National Youth Service programme.
